Bruce Lisker - Bruce Lisker, The Untold Story

BRUCE LISKER'S UNTOLD STORY "The Joyful Redemption" by Jerry Weinstock The story of Bruce Lisker's wrongful conviction for murdering his mother, his 26-year-long legal battle to prove his innocence, and the recent overturning of his conviction has garnered over 50 articles in the LA Times (including 3 front pages) as well as a 48 Hours episode. As shocking as Bruce Lisker's story is, there's an untold story that has yet to be heard.

I'm Jerry Weinstock, Bruce Lisker's "step-father," and I have an incredible true story to tell about a family tragedy that's inspired two extraordinary testaments to life-after-death. My late wife, Joy, wrote a memoir about her conversations with her then husband, Bob Lisker, (Bruce's father) after he died in 1995 entitled, "LOVE EVER AFTER: How My Husband Became My Spirit Guide."

Bob Lisker's previous wife had been brutally murdered in their Los Angeles home in 1983 and his 17 year old son, Bruce, despite pleas of innocence, was convicted of the murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Bob's torment about losing his wife and his only son drove this conservative lawyer, former Marine and pillar of the community to attempt to contact the spirit of his dead wife to find out who killed her. This set the stage for the afterlife communications Joy wrote about in her memoir.

Besides spiritual wisdom and helping Joy with her grief, Bob Lisker gave his widow a 12 Step program to meet a new love. After six weeks of working the program, she found me. So we were literally a "match-made-in-heaven." Joy and I enjoyed 10 wonderful years together during which time we visited Bruce in prison and spoke to him on the phone almost daily...and I gradually became Bruce's "father figure."

When Joy succumbed to cancer in 2007, I was devastated. In the depths of my grief, I wanted to die. But incredibly Joy began communicating with me from the Afterlife. She guided me on an extraordinary healing journey and ultimately, like the final scene in the movie "Ghost," found a willing medium through whom she literally loved me back to life.

A month after I completed my memoir, "JOYride: How My Late Wife Loved Me Back to Life," Bruce Lisker's conviction was overturned and, to the accompaniment of TV cameras and front page headlines, he was released from prison after serving 26 years for a crime he did NOT commit. Now 44 years old, Bruce came "home" to live with me as he took his first steps towards rebuilding the life that he lost.

With Bruce free, I began to see his story in a larger context which I began to call The Joyful Redemption. In this "afterlife saga" (described in both memoirs), both Bruce's father and step-mother become "spirit guides." It's wild! It's crazy! And yet it's true! In fact, the odds that Bruce would ever regain his freedom were just as improbable. And miraculous.

It's said that the Lord works in mysterious ways.... Why this brutal murder and miscarriage of justice generated two testaments to life-after-death is a mystery. And what greater purpose there might be to the unfolding of Bruce Lisker's life, only time will tell.
